The only thing that has held up brandon's executive orders on the topic is the supreme court.

America is the world's biggest importer of goods. You import about $3 trillion worth of goods each year.

Do you honestly think that overnight America is going to be able to go from $3 trillion worth of imports to $0? Do you think overnight somehow America will be able to manufacture ALL $3 trillion worth of goods, so as to avoid the tariffs?

Do yourself a favour and actually let that one sink in for a moment before you rush in and accuse me of being an arrogant non-US citizen just here to bash US-citizens. I'm just here to hold your hand through this complex economic situation that Trump is lying about to you.

You cannot suddenly build the infrastructure required to make all of those goods yourself. And even if you could - you wont be able to make them as cheaply as China/etc, where workers are paid much much less wages than what an American would accept.

First, our biggest single import is petroleum. America ironically is also the biggest petroleum producer in the world (Thank you President Trump). We don't need to import petroleum, but we do because we import it cheaper than we export it.

We import cheaper petroleum and export more expensive petroleum.

Another large category is automobiles.
It is why Shooter is glad he owns Toyotas. They are the brand that is made most in America. More than GM, more than Ford, more than
Stellantis (formerly known as Fiat Chrysler).

Didn't know that, did you? Toyotas are manufactured in America. Toyotas are the third most popular brand to buy in America. If the other top sellers (Honda and GM) become even more expensive than Toyotas, guess what consumers can do with that? Their choice; pay more for a Honda or GM, or look at Toyotas, that are rated more reliable than either Hondas or GMs.

And of course consumer electronics; computers, TV's Etc.

So, you arrogant ass, if we quit importing petroleum our cost of gas would go up, not down, wouldn't it? Even with a 20% tariff, wouldn't it? Remember when brandon sold off our reserves trying to control the cost of gas, that liberals staunchly declared he had no control over? And why he did that?
And if we buy autos built in America we won't be paying any Tariff, will we? Because Trump's tarriffs are for things MANUFACTURED OVERSEAS, not corporations based overseas.

America makes motor cars. Bravo. But how do you increase production sufficiently to make up for the 6 million cars that America imports each year? Do you think the Toyota plants can increase production overnight?

America imports about 75% of the crude oil that it uses. Same question - do you think that domestic crude oil production can be ramped up from 25% of the country's needs to 100% overnight?

Current America buys around $500b of goods from China - your main supplier of goods. And Trump wants to go to war with them on tariffs! You're a fool if you think that will work out well for you. Even if Trump tries to get smart, and only put tariffs on goods that are produced in the USA, do you think China will sit back and take it? They will force you to pay more for everything that you import from them. China's great at trade wars.

Not to mention the retaliation that will happen globally. Trump wants to also apply tariffs to other countries. Do you think we wont also add tariffs to our goods?

Trump's tariffs will ONLY push up the cost of living for Americans, and basically the rest of the world.
