Snare Aware is a registered NPO founded in July 2020. It’s made up of a group of volunteers who dedicate their spare time to sweeping and removing snares from greenbelts around towns, conservancies and game reserves in the KZN area.
The group, which predominantly operates along the South Coast, has also travelled around KZN to lend a hand and experience where needed and, more recently, has assisted a small group of Pennington Conservancy volunteers identify, deactivate and remove snares in many of our natural areas: Nkomba Sanctuary, the Beach Café gardens and along the railway line.
This is extremely hard work and can be quite stressful, but above all else, it is very rewarding knowing that the wildlife is being kept safe, sound and alive.
Grateful thanks to Paul Johnston, Riekie Venter, Raheema Bibi Moonsamy, Simon Boyle, Christine Gracie, Andre Herbst, Jeff Sandwith, Adrienne Edgson, Tienie Boerssen, Many van Prooijen, Hans Joerg and Steve Stead.
A special lady who works in a local supermarket told me that, once again, the taps are completely dry in Amandawe, with not a drop since March 2023. Can someone attend to this issue?
