If you're upto date with tech news, the first word that will pop into your head is Apple and you'd be justified, Apple's been on a roll filing patent related claims against everyone they possibly can. The latest ones have been against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 on the basis that it looks like Apple's iPad. The tablet which has already been banned from Australia thanks to Apple, is now banned in Germany aswell as of 9Th September 2011.
A preliminary injunction was granted to Apple by a German district court on 10Th August 2011. Now after a full hearing, the court has banned sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany on the basis that its "simplistic, modern and has round edges" which does not make any sense since that is what a tablet is supposed to look like and nearly all tablets have a simplistic and modern look with somewhat curved edges.
Apple has also filled a similar case against the Galaxy Tab 7.7 which I should say can not possibly be mistaken for an iPad simply because of the huge size difference between the two. Meanwhile Samsung is going to be taking the case to a higher German court and I hope they win the case there. Afterall if courts start banning tablet sales simply because Apple was the innovator with the iPad and everything else has a similar look, there would be little competition and consumers would be worse off as a result.
